Thursday’s Special: Physical Phenomenon

This week Paula wants us to show her a natural phenomenon. I find the way ice forms on a river so interesting, chunks of it in places near the shore, while parts of the river remain water.  Sometimes the ice makes a pattern within itself, as seen here.

Always Looking Up

I am not making reference to optimism here, but rather to keeping my eyes looking upward to the tops of the trees and the sky to see what is there. Sometimes it will be rain clouds with the sun setting behind them over a bay.Or giant puffs of clouds with the sun attempting to break through […]

Winter Birds

I put food out for the birds after our monumental snow storm, and stood by with my camera. They must have been very hungry as I stood within 4 feet of them and they didn’t seem to mind at all. I loved hearing the soft flutter of their feathers as they flew past me. Blue Jay […]

Beginning & End Of Day

I pulled into the parking lot at work yesterday, the temperature a mere 21 degrees, and was met by the sound of birds gathering in an apple tree, munching on those that were left. It was early and the sky still not fully light, the tree standing out in silhouette.  My day turned out to […]

End of Day

I am adjusting to working full time these days, leaving the house at 7:45 and returning home at 5:00. I am in motion most of the day- working as an assistant teacher, zipping through the halls to get to the copy machine, taking the kids out for recess and down to lunch in the lunchroom, […]

Serendipity Photo Prompt: Summer’s Harvest

The Autumnal Equinox occurred this week- fall is upon us. Marilyn at Serendipity asks what we did on our summer vacation? My husband and I never really take vacations, instead we like to go away for the day and sleep in our own beds. We did make an exception this summer and stayed overnight for […]

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Habits

I am a creature of habit I suppose. Every morning the first thing I do is turn on the Keurig coffee machine, make a cup of coffee and plant myself in front of the computer to catch up on the blog posts that came in overnight, then head over to Facebook to see what is […]

Nature-It’s Good for the Brain!

There was an article in The New York Times last month that said “A walk in the park may soothe the mind and, in the process, change the workings of our brains in ways that improve our mental health” You can read the article here. I knew walking in nature helps to calm me, makes […]

Through the Window

Daily Prompt:Through the Window Go to the nearest window. Look out for a full minute. Write about what you saw. When I am home I am usually at my computer, at the kitchen table looking out through my garden window. I watch the seasons change through this window. Summer is my favorite season, when the […]

Weekly Photo Challenge: Inspiration

I look to nature for inspiration. It restores my sense of well being and balance when things are getting me down. It allows me to see the beauty around me, to get outside my own head and move me forward. Weekly Photo Challenge:Inspiration

World Of Wings-A Day With The Butterflies

Yesterday we visited a wonderful place called World of Wings. It is a “butterfly museum” with many exhibits about butterflies and a 3D movie about the Monarch butterflies that every autumn fly 3000 miles from the northeastern U.S. and Canada to their ancestral wintering grounds in the mountains of central Mexico. It was very interesting. My […]

Camera Crazy

I have always loved taking photos. I was the one who always had the camera on vacations, taking roll upon roll of film back in the days when we used film. I can remember being on a tour in Europe back in the 1980’s and always having extra rolls with me so I wouldn’t run […]

From Trash to Treasure

Yesterday we visited an amazing park within what is called The Meadowlands District in New Jersey. Back in the 1970s this area held over 50 landfills. Lands that previously had been used for grazing and the harvesting of salt hay were being used for landfills where for years unregulated dumping of solid waste took place. […]

Floral Friday

I am always amazed to see flowers blooming amidst the bushes and reeds around the pond I visit everyday. Queen Anne’s Lace, Tiger Lilies, wild Petunias. Standing out in contrast to all the green that surrounds them. A marvel of nature.
