Pull Up A Seat

This man and his dogs found a seat in a corner behind the New York Public Library. He was aware I took his photo as I went over to speak with him and ask about his beautiful dogs. (one is behind his legs partially hidden) A quiet spot to pull up a seat.

November Photo a Day Challenge: Thunderstorm

A few weeks ago we had to go to a funeral about an hours drive from where we live. The weather was atrocious- buckets of rain fell the entire day. Thunder could be heard in the distance. After the funeral we needed to drive two hours back to New Jersey, to attend a family gathering, which would leave us with another hour and 15 minute drive home. Fortunately the sun came out as we got in the car to head home.

Thankful

Morning with my favorite ducks. Here you’ll see them coming to say hello and returning my quack -well, sounds more like a honk. Look across the pond for the white dot and listen closely for the quack. Have a great day!

Sunday Stills: Your #Favorite Photo

This week Terri invites us to share a favorite photo of ours- or more than one, old or new.

Oh how difficult it seems to be to choose….

However,

This past summer I passed this woman on the beach and just loved her “look”, her stance, on the phone, the way she was standing. I am usually loathe to photograph people when they are unaware I am taking their photo, but I did anyway. I took the photo but then kept hitting the shutter just in case I didn’t get it. What I did not realize until I got home and uploaded to my computer, was that the next photo was the real winner.

This seagull was coming in for a landing, though not on her, but the angle in the photo makes it look as if he is. I couldn’t believe it. I just LOVE this photo.

Another favorite, taken a few summers ago. I loved how this young girl was skipping down the beach, not a care in the world. The sky so blue, the waves crashing on the shore, the freedom of summer so apparent. Life so simple.

Visiting my local pond a few winters ago, I walked the trail around it only to look up and see an American Bald Eagle sitting in the branches right above me. I clicked away silently, with him paying me no mind. He was more interested in finding the fish beneath the waters of the pond.

Same pond, Springtime. Tree Swallows were in abundance and flying everywhere, These two landed and stayed still long enough for me to capture them.

Early morning a few blocks from home, I ventured out to catch the sunrise. I loved the texture in the snow as the sunlight glowed upon it.

My favorite place-on an early morning, sea and sky meet one another, and there is something about the  perspective of the blanket that I love

Taken from an overpass a block from my home, early morning fog rising through the trees as the train approaches. Taken with my cell phone. One of my most commented on photos.

Tuesday Photo Challenge: Fantasy

Frank’s theme this week is fantasy, so I had some fun with photo editing.

Photo Challenge: Clock the Time

Time does speed up as we age. The days of childhood seem to drag on forever, but as I have gotten older the sun seems to rise and set more quickly. I come into my classroom each day and write the date on the board, this past week amazed to realize it is the end of November already. Last summer I tried to hold onto each day as long as I could, savoring each moment, the free time I had, my trips to the beach, meeting up with friends. But still the days were fleeting and I found myself sitting at school orientation wondering how it was that summer had ended so swiftly. Life, it does fly by in a minute it seems.

The Weekly Smile

The ducks I visit at my local pond have been my weekly, and almost daily smile. I wrote about them here, as they made me smile last week too. I did a little reading about what to feed them, and apparently bread is an “empty calorie treat” holding no nutritional value, the way to go is corn kernels. I wondered if they would come to depend on me for food, but I don’t go every day, and they are not babies, so it is not likely they will forget how to forage for food within their pond.

I arrive at the pond and call out a quack, and from across the pond they come swimming. She answers my quacks, if I quack twice, she returns the quack with 2. The other day Mister Mallard was a little further out than she was, and not able to catch up though he was paddling like mad. He remembered he had wings and took to the air in order to make up for the distance. So smart.

Mrs. Quacker has taken to eating from my hand, but Mr. Mallard was not quite so trusting at first.  He came around this weekend though, and he too happily took the corn from my hand. Like two vacuum cleaners, they inhaled the corn in seconds.

Good Morning!

There aren’t enough hours in the day lately, and I have been absent from blogging as a result. I found a half an hour to visit my favorite pond yesterday and visit my friendly ducks who have taken up residence there. I quack to them across the pond and they make a bee line swimming as fast as their little webbed feet can take them. Momma duck (as I have taken to calling her) stands up and waves her wings when she reaches me, which I take as her way of greeting me.

She surprised me when she not only came right out of the water, but ate from hand. Poppa has also taken to coming on land, though still not quite ready to make contact. Have a great Monday!
