How many languages do you you speak?

I only speak English. I took French in school for a few years and can still put together sentences and remember basic words. My husband and I  took Yiddish classes at the Yiddish Institute in New York City many years ago. He grew up speaking it at home, I did not. He had never learned proper grammar and sentence structure so for him it was also a learning experience. I am still able to speak a little, and understand, but not using it, you lose it. I also learned American Sign Language years ago and volunteered in a local school for the Deaf in order to use it.

I Love You in ASL

What are you reading, watching, listening to, eating?

Reading: Mostly blogs and I save up my newspapers and read them over the weekend. Watching: Just finished up the season of Billionaire on Showtime, a great series. Also watch the Real Housewives of NYC- I love to see the vacations they take and the places they live- not to mention the cat fights.

Listening to: Austin Plaine is my new favorite to listen to.

What was the last photo you took with your phone?

An Iris that I passed while on a walk-they were planted at the corner of someone’s property next to the sidewalk. Too beautiful to pass by without snapping a photo.

What is your favorite time of day?

Early morning just as the sun is rising. I love the quiet, seeing the sky change colors as dawn is breaking. That first cup of coffee. Especially at the beach.

Grateful everyday. Always.

When you’re alone at home, do you wear shoes, socks, slippers, or go barefoot?

I usually take my shoes off at soon as I get home. Slippers are usually what I put on, or in the summer months a pair of flip flops.

What was your favorite food when you were a child?

Macaroni and Cheese. My mother used a big green or yellow Pyrex bowl- those of a certain age will know the kind I mean, they nested one in a other and came in 5 different colors. She used elbow macaroni and made a cheese sauce which was mixed with the noodles. The best part was the bread crumb crust on the top. I don’t know what she did to make it so thick and crusty, but it was delicious. There was nothing like walking in the house after school to find that bowl cooling on the counter.

Are you a listener or talker?

I would consider myself  a listener, though I am also a talker. Wh

Favorite thing to (pick one):  Photograph?  Write? Or Cook?

My favorite thing to photograph are birds. I love capturing their beauty, especially up close where I can see the beautiful details of their colors and feathers.

What is the easiest way for your to learn something new?  By reading, by seeing and doing, in a classroom?

Seeing and doing for sure. Just reading usually doesn’t work for me.

Would you rather live where it is always hot or always cold?

The older I become the less tolerance I have for the cold. I would much rather live in a place that is always warm, but as for now I am remaining in a state that has four seasons, and where cold seems to hang around much longer than warm.

Do you prefer long hair or short hair for yourself?

My hair is a “medium” length I suppose. I have worn it short, but these days prefer it a bit longer. I can remember a time when you reached a certain age it didn’t seem “appropriate” to have longer hair- but I don’t think it matters so much anymore.

What is your favorite month of the year?

June! Summer arrives, school ends!

What is the easiest way for your to learn something new?  By reading, by seeing and doing, in a classroom?

By seeing and then doing. It is hard for me to grasp something just by reading it.

Wanting something to quench your thirst, what would you drink?

I drink a lot of water and that is always my go to drink to stay hydrated. It counteracts all the coffee I consume which dehydrates!

Complete this sentence:  Never In My Life Have I….

Bungee jumped, rappelled down a mountain, ridden in a helicopter, jumped out of an airplane, to name a few nevers and never will happen.

If you could be given any gift what would it be?

The gift of good health. Without it, life can be so difficult and challenging.

What do you do if you can’t sleep at night? Do you count sheep, toss and turn, or get up and try to do something productive?

I make up outfits in my head. I go through my closet mentally, putting together skirts and sweaters, thinking about what outfits I might wear the next day.

Have you ever participated in a distance walking, swimming, running, or biking event? Tell your story.

I am not a biker or swimmer, but I do walk alot and love it. I have never participated in any kind of walking event though. My husband and I walked 12 miles through a park that crosses through a few towns in our area one Sunday. My idea was to park a car at each end so we wouldn’t have to walk back- I figured 6 miles was enough, but he thought better of it and we left both cars at one end. We reached the end of the 6 miles, sat down and had lunch and he said he wished we had the car. Oh well. We walked back and slept very well that night.

Name one thing not many people know about you.

Hmmmm. That’s a hard one since I feel I have revealed so much about myself on my blog, and in “real life” basically what you see is what you get. I think people are surprised when I tell them I can be quick to anger- those who have not experienced it first hand, that is. I can have a short fuse and I also have the ability to cut people out of my life pretty easily. My father was like that, so I don’t know if it is learned behavior or partly just how I am wired. It is not something I like about myself, but have a hard time changing. I am always being put into the “escalation” department when on the phone trying to sort something out with an insurance company or the likes because I lose my temper and start yelling.

What is your favorite flower?

Hydrangea. I do love Peonies. Oh and I must include Bleeding Hearts. They are a miracle to look at.

Things I want to have in my home (paintings, hot tubs, book cases, big screen tv etc)

I just sent 8 huge garbage bags off this morning with Purple Heart donation center- I am trying to rid the house of the extras I don’t need that are taking up space. I do love the books and the knick knacks that hold special meaning because they were gifts, and some of the paintings hanging on the walls for the same reason.

Grateful everyday.Share Your World

Does your first or middle name have any significance (or were you named after another family member)?

My mother chose my first name because she liked it and at the time it was not a common name. Apparently many other women thought so too as there were always 2 or 3 of us in every class I was in throughout school. My middle name is Pauline, my mother’s name and my maternal great grandmother’s name.

Music or silence while working?

Usually silence unless I am doing something at the computer in which case I may put something low on in the background.

If you had a special place for your three most special possessions (not including photos, electronics, people or animals), what would they be?

I have begun to rid myself of possessions that seemed to be possessing me as I grow older. I can’t bring myself to parting with certain things my father gave me that have very sentimental value and remind me of him. To name my 3 most special is hard- probably the jewelry my husband has given me over the years.

The Never List: What are things you know you never will do?

Bungee jump, sky dive, and go on a cruise

How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?

I always think I am somewhere in my 30’s, until I spend time with people in their 30’s and feel ancient. Been there…. done that…. who cares….things will work out. It’s a funny feeling looking back when confronted with those who have so much of life yet to live. Knowing that life can unfold in unexpected ways, things work out for the best or they don’t. I attempt to stay “current” in an ever changing world and hope to keep that generation gap that has the potential to appear, closed. I think it is healthy to never lose the child within us.

So, you’re on your way out and it’s raining. Do you know where your umbrella is or do you frantically search for it all over your apartment/house?

Unless it is really raining torrentially I don’t use an umbrella, that’s what hoods are for. I have one in my glove compartment in case of a sudden downpour, and 2 in the hall coat closet.

Do you recharge your energy by going out with friends for a good time or by spending quiet time alone?

If I need to vent as a means of recharging I will call my BFF. Most often I recharge by walking in nature, taking my camera and photographing the birds and my surroundings, being quiet and taking in the views.

Name three things you and your spouse, partner or best friend  to have in common.

Spouse, partner, best friend= husband and we love taking day trips and exploring new places and going to crafts fairs. We love to take walks, we share an appreciation for music and love a good sense of humor.
