Expressions Younger Kids Won’t Understand
WHY DO WE “DIAL” A PHONE?
To call someone on an old phone, you had to stick your finger in a rotating dial at number positions that would turn the dial for various lengths of time when released. You had to do the entire number every time.
My childhood phone number ended in 1 0 9 8… you can imagine the frustration when someone was trying to call me in a hurry!

I do still love having my grandies play with my old phone and now they “get” the Mama called the doctor (finger dialing motion) and the doctor said, “No more monkeys jumping in the bed!” I am way back in March, have to leave the car and yes, ten hours. Yuck! 😏 But have a special day, Lisa. 💐

I love these old phones, remember using them in the other room with a very loooong and twisted chord. Swwwishhhh tic tic tic tic as it spins!

I loved those old phones. The day my parents got a long cord for our kitchen phone—oh, the wonder! I could drag the phone into the next room to talk!

Lots of memories here. I suppose that makes me old. lol! Even worse, I remember when phone numbers started with names (for instance, my parents phone number was Amherst7-7241).

Happy memories – I miss this phones. I still remember my Mum making me walk across a road to a phonebox, she then ran back to the house so she could get me to practise ringing home from a phone box!!
