ah now that could mean that it is not positioned correctly. I have to adjust mine every year to account for daylight saving!!
Basically the shadow moves past each of the lines marked with hours in a similar way that a clock hand moves around its face. So whatever number the shadow falls on should be the time – if it isn’t the dial needs to be moved round!
