I awoke to the news that Donald Trump was elected President of the United States. I found it to be a sad statement on where the people of the US are now, seeing they have elected a man whose campaign was based on fear mongering, poking fun at the disbaled, and dividing a country rather than trying to unify it. In response to his being elected I put together some positive images accompanied by the 1967 Youngbloods song Get Together
Love is but a song to sing
Fear’s the way we die
You can make the mountains ring
Or make the angels cry
Though the bird is on the wing
And you may not know why
Come on people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another
Right now
If you hear the song I sing
You will understand (listen!)
You hold the key to love and fear
All in your trembling hand
Just one key unlocks them both
It’s there at you command
Come on people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another
Right now

Seriously?
😦
That’s just the question I keep on asking America, but I know it can’t be easy to be a citizen who did not vote for him, does not want him there.
As for the question of trying to get together and love one another right now, I will try.

We can’t do anything about him being elected, we can only respond to it by stopping the hate

I never thought it could happen and was very shocked. I don’t think he would last long if he continues the same rhetorics.

We all keep saying it’s only 4 years and most important is for people to unite- to stop the hate against one another that he has given license to. It is shameful to see and hear such hate and bigotry come out of people’s mouths.

I have always loved this song, Lisa! 🙂 The montage of humanity with all the love, warmth and kindness shining on people’s faces was beautiful.
So perfect for this healing we need in our hearts. Hugs for this last post before I head off to bed. Thank you.

Love that song. So many groups and individuals have sung it, but it always makes me choke up a little.
We are, as a species, VERY good at hating. A lot of the hatred is rage at the feeling of being left behind while the world has moved on. I am sympathetic, but I also think that these people need to recognize that rage is not going to solve their problems. The world HAS moved on and they have to move on too because society won’t wait for them. Mourning what you lost is doesn’t bring it back, but they don’t get that. So they elect Trump … who is a billionaire and hasn’t a clue about what poverty or loss is really like. Irrationality rules.

Song is too late. By 2020 the world will have lost 2/3 of its animals. If there is a god we need a biblical flood or something to get rid of most of humanity. Trump is just one symptom of the huge problem. This is a depressing day.

I also became sad to hear this news, Lisa.
But there must be many Americans, who believe in him, even the rest of the world are holding their breathe in fear, specially with thoughts about WWII. We just hope, this will not be repeated.

I think what saddens me is the amount of hate that has come out, been brought to the surface by Trump. I live in an area where people of all nationalities live, I also grew up that way.He has played into the hate and I too think of WWII- because this is how it starts. Very frightening

Oh my god, thank you SO much. I had no idea how to get through this day….Your post and a newsletter I get from The Human Rights Campaign president are reminding me how to go on…
And a trailer from what looks to be a truly amazing movie. I bought it immediately and will watch it after all the speeches today.
Thanks again for your post!

Thank you for the link and I am glad my post resonated with you. It is a hard day, a sad day to think that someone filled with such limited abilities and with such hatred in his heart could be elected to run the country

It’s more like 20 or 30 years, depending on who they chose to fill the vacant seat in the supreme court. This will throw us back decades.

Words our country needs to hear today. Will love or fear rule. That is not the choice of a ruling party. It is the choice of each household and each heart.

I knew something was up. It rained yesterday. It has not rained in over a month. I thought the skies were crying for what they were about to unleash on us. The early numbers were shocking. My only hope is that what he ‘promised’ to do will not come to fruition. He cannot just do whatever he wants. As I have always been told–everyone has a boss. Surely Congress will hold him accountable and veto half of the craziness ‘he, alone’ wants to do.
You picked the perfect song, and the images were beautiful. God help us all. Have a good one, Lisa.

I hope you are right Lois- it is true he can’t just do all the craziness he talked about. It terrifies me that this man holds such an important position- we are watching a reality show- except we’re not. I still can’t get my head around it.

Same here. So many emotions- and so sad to think that this is what our country is made of. So much hate and intolerance, condoned bullying and making fun of people- how can it be?
