Feathers on Friday

White-breasted Nuthatches are active, agile little birds that creep along trunks and large branches, often turning sideways and upside down on vertical surfaces as they forage. They get their name from their habit of jamming large nuts and acorns into tree bark, then whacking them with their sharp bill to “hatch” out the seed from the inside. White-breasted Nuthatches may be small but their voices are loud, and often their insistent nasal yammering will lead you right to them.011

  1. The nuthatch is such a sweet little bird, Lisa. You can see all the details and I enjoyed his perky behavior, too. I like the way you are able to wait or watch until the perfect shot becomes clear. I admire your ability to do this!
