Color Your World: Burnt Orange

Burnt Orange Jennifer Nichole Wells tells us that Burnt Orange has been used as a color name for this medium dark shade of orange since 1915. It was popular in interior design in the 1970s. Quite right, as my mother painted our dining room Burnt Orange, only to repaint it about six months later, with the painter telling her ” I told you so” You can see a slice of it in the background of this photoscan0033

In fall foliage it is a welcome sight20151012_181101 (2)

  1. The 70’s was a time for garish and bold use of colour. Interesting to note that it was invented in 1915. My mother had curtains this colour in our living room!!! Yuk!! And next to them one of those bronzed aluminium planters!! Double yuk!!

  2. When I was in 5th grade, around 1967, I had a favorite dress that was burnt orange with a white band running down the middle and across the waist. Now I look at pictures and think “what a horrid color!”
